Run the other way! In MY OPINION, I ALLEGE that Dr. George Barratt is one of the WORST dentists I have ever experienced in my 53 years of life. I have an 11-year-old apprehensive daughter with some loose teeth who needed to extract three teeth. Her usual dentist was professional and considerate enough not to traumatize her by subjecting her to an extraction without sedation. So she recommended finding a dentist who offers sedation. I found Dr. Barratt's webpage with the promise of a "dental procedure so tranquil that the patient often feels as if he or she slept through it". I made an appointment for consultation. During consultation he told us that by giving oral sedation my daughter would be conscious but sedated and would "not feel the injections or the extractions but can follow the instructions". I trusted his word and, even though my insurance was paying for the oral sedation (leaving me to pay $294 out of pocket), scheduled my daughter for extraction of her teeth for today (Friday June 13th). We followed the instructions to a tee and showed up on time. To make the long story short the procedure turned out to be THE MOST TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE OF NOT ONLY MY DAUGHTER BUT MYSELF. I can't use any word short of TORTURE to describe it. My daughter was NOT sleepy. My daughter FELT EVERY INJECTION. My daughter FELT EVERY EXTRACTION. My daughter was SCREAMING the ENTIRE TIME. My daughter REMEMBERS AND WILL REMEMBER EVERY MOMENT OF THIS PAINFUL EXPERIENCE FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. THE DOCTOR and his assistant KIM FIULLER COMPLETELY IGNORED my daughter's AGONY and kept telling her "WE ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING". She is a smart and gifted child two grades ahead of her age and was feeling the injection! What did they mean by "we are not doing anything"? Did they expect her to believe that? Was that supposed to be comforting to her? Did they think just because she is a child she is stupid? They blamed my daughter for the doctor's INABILITY TO EXTRACT one of the three teeth and having to INJECT HER TWICE for that tooth by saying "it's because she moves". That was NOT TRUE because I was standing in the hallway and witnessing it. When the TORTUROUS PROCEDURE FALSELY ADVERTISED AS "dental procedure so TRANQUIL that the patient often feels as if he or she slept through it" was over, I questioned "Dr." Barratt's professionalism, his false advertisement, his lack of consideration for my daughter's pain and suffering and continuing the procedure despite it. To my disbelieve his answer was "IT WAS BECAUSE OF HER FEAR"! I REMINDED him that we were in his office for that very reason to begin with otherwise the previous dentist, should she have been as unprofessional and cruel as he was, would not have needed to send us to a dentist who offers "SEDATION". Not having any excuse for he had done, he told me "why did you stay in the hallway when I had asked you to sit in the waiting room?" I responded "I am glad I did not so I could see what you did to my daughter and tell the other people out there so nobody else would go through what we went through". Sadly today's brutal experience reminded me of a story I heard on NPR, describing the days of surgery and dental extractions without anesthesia. The days when people attempted suicide not to go through the very painful experience of a torturous procedure. This is what my daughter and I would remember Dr. Barratt's office for the rest of our lives. My daughter was scarred for life today and so was I. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID THIS "DR." BY ALL MEANS. I am filing a complaint with Texas State Board of Dental Examiners not only for false advertisement but also for lack of professionalism and cruelty towards my daughter.
